Bathroom Tile That Holds Up

Bathrooms are the most demanding tile environment in a home. Water intrusion, temperature swings, steam, and cleaning products all work against a tile installation that wasn't built correctly from the start. The work we do in bathrooms starts well before the first decorative tile goes up.

Shower walls in wood-framed homes require cement backer board installed with corrosion-resistant screws and tape at the seams, followed by a liquid-applied or sheet waterproofing membrane. We apply the membrane over the entire wet zone, extending it onto the shower floor and turning it up behind the curb. That membrane is what actually keeps water out of the wall cavity.

Shower floors require a pitch of approximately 1/4 inch per foot toward the drain. We use a pre-sloped foam shower base or a hand-floated mortar bed to achieve this slope before the waterproofing membrane and tile go down. A floor that doesn't drain properly will hold standing water and deteriorate grout joints over time.

Shower Surrounds

Floor-to-ceiling tile on all three walls, including built-in niches, benches, and decorative accent bands. We handle the waterproofing membrane and backer board as part of the scope.

Tub Surrounds & Decks

Three-wall tub surrounds and tiled tub decks. We address the gap between the tub flange and the wall, which is one of the most common moisture entry points in older bathrooms.

Bathroom Floors

Floor tile from small mosaic sheets to 12x24 inch porcelain. We establish the proper slope at floor drains and set tile with appropriate joint sizing for the format.

Accent Walls & Wainscoting

Half-wall tile installations, decorative feature walls behind vanities, and full-height tile on bathroom walls outside the wet zone.
