What This Service Covers

Residential tile installation at Tiling Canyon Lake covers floor tile in any room of the home — living areas, hallways, entryways, laundry rooms, and covered outdoor patios. We install porcelain, ceramic, natural stone, and large-format tiles up to 48x48 inches.

The most common call we get is from homeowners who want to replace outdated flooring across an open-plan living and kitchen area. These projects require careful planning around existing transitions, cabinets that can't be moved, and floor height changes at doorways. We work through those details in the estimate visit, not during the install.

We also handle tile installation in new construction and in remodels where the subfloor has been exposed. In those cases, we assess the structural deck, determine if a crack isolation membrane is appropriate, and factor that into the scope before a single tile is ordered.

What Goes Into a Floor Tile Installation

Subfloor Assessment

We check for deflection, levelness, and moisture before recommending a tile type. A floor that flexes more than 1/360th of the span length will crack grout joints over time, regardless of how well the tile is set.

Layout Planning

We establish the layout lines before mixing mortar. For large rooms, this means finding the visual center and working outward so cut tiles at walls are symmetrical. For diagonal patterns, we snap a 45-degree grid. The dry-lay step confirms the plan works.

Mortar Selection

Large-format porcelain and natural stone require a medium-bed or large-format mortar, not the standard thinset used for smaller tiles. The right mortar provides enough coverage and support across the back of the tile to prevent hollow spots and future cracking.

Leveling System

We use a tile leveling clip system during installation. Clips are inserted under tile edges and tightened with wedges to hold adjacent tiles coplanar while the mortar cures. This prevents lippage and produces a flat surface.

Grout and Sealing

After mortar cure time, grout is packed into joints, excess is removed, and the surface is cleaned of haze. Grout is sealed once it has cured fully. Natural stone floors receive a penetrating stone sealer as well.
