Kitchen Backsplash Tile

Clean cuts at cabinets, precise outlet cutouts, and patterns that line up where they should.

More Than a Decorative Surface

A kitchen backsplash protects the wall between the countertop and upper cabinets from grease, moisture, and cleaning products. The installation quality matters even when the tile itself is simple. Gaps at the countertop-tile joint, uneven grout lines, or tiles that aren't plumb become more visible over time, not less.

We start every backsplash installation by establishing a level reference line, regardless of whether the countertop is level. Countertops often aren't perfectly level, and starting from the counter edge means the tile will follow any variation. Starting from a level line keeps the tile square to the room and makes the grout joints look intentional.

The Details That Matter

01

Outlet and Switch Cutouts

Outlet boxes in the backsplash zone require clean cuts in the tile. We measure and cut each outlet opening so the plate cover sits flush without visible gaps. Sloppy outlet cuts are one of the most visible signs of rushed work.

02

Cabinet and Countertop Transitions

The joint between the tile and the countertop is filled with caulk, not grout. Caulk accommodates the slight movement between two different surfaces and prevents cracking at this joint. We use a color-matched caulk.

03

Range Hood and Window Surrounds

Tile running behind a range hood or around a window requires precise cuts and careful layout planning so the pattern doesn't arrive at these features mid-tile in an awkward way.
