Light gray stone-look floor tiles set on diagonal in a bright Bulverde master bathroom hallway

Diagonal Bathroom Floor

Bulverde, TX

This master bathroom in a Bulverde subdivision home had a long, narrow floor plan that made a diagonal tile layout a practical choice — the 45-degree pattern draws the eye along the length of the room rather than across it, making the space feel wider. The 18x18 light gray stone-look porcelain was set on a 45-degree grid established from the room's visual center, with cuts at all four walls planned to be symmetrical.

Diagonal layouts require about 15% more tile than straight layouts due to the increased number of cuts at the perimeter. We calculated this additional overage into the material order and confirmed with the homeowner before tile was purchased.

What We Did

  1. Established 45-degree grid from room center using laser level; verified symmetry at all four walls
  2. Calculated perimeter cuts and confirmed 15% overage in tile order before delivery
  3. Set 18x18 porcelain on diagonal with polymer-modified thinset; leveling clips at all joints
  4. Grouted with medium gray sanded grout; applied grout sealer after full cure
