Herringbone Kitchen Backsplash
Canyon Lake, TX
This kitchen backsplash in a Canyon Lake home uses glossy white elongated tiles in a 45-degree herringbone pattern. The herringbone layout was centered above the range, which required calculating the exact tile starting point so the V of the pattern fell symmetrically on the range hood centerline. Working outward from that center point kept the pattern balanced across the full wall length.
The countertop-to-tile joint was filled with cream-colored silicone caulk rather than grout, which accommodates the slight movement between the quartz countertop and the wall tile over time. The range area received heat-resistant mortar behind the tile given its proximity to the cooking surface.
What We Did
- Established level reference line and centered the herringbone pattern on the range hood axis
- Set elongated tiles in 45-degree herringbone using standard white thinset; heat-resistant mortar behind range area
- Cut precise openings for all outlet boxes; installed tile to cabinet undersides with clean termination
- Grouted with white unsanded grout; applied cream silicone caulk at countertop joint
