Marble Living Room Floor
Canyon Lake, TX
This living room floor in a Canyon Lake lakefront home was retiled with large-format polished porcelain in a white marble look, replacing older 12x12 ceramic tile that had been set directly over the slab without a crack isolation layer. The new installation used a 24x24 inch format in a straight-lay pattern with 1/16 inch joints, which required the slab to be assessed and spot-leveled with self-leveling compound before any tile was set. A crack isolation membrane was applied over the full floor area given the property's location on expansive clay soil near the lake.
The open-plan room required careful layout planning from a single centerline to keep the pattern consistent across the living and dining areas without awkward partial tiles at the glass doors facing the water.
What We Did
- Removed existing 12x12 ceramic tile and adhesive residue from the slab
- Applied self-leveling compound to low spots; installed crack isolation membrane over full floor
- Dry-laid 24x24 porcelain from centerline to confirm pattern alignment at all walls and door openings
- Set tile with large-format mortar using back-buttering technique for full coverage; installed leveling clips throughout
- Grouted with unsanded grout at 1/16 inch joints; applied penetrating sealer to finished surface
