Minimalist white kitchen with Calacatta marble slab backsplash and matte black faucet in Spring Branch

Marble Slab Backsplash

Spring Branch, TX

This Spring Branch kitchen received a Calacatta marble-look porcelain slab backsplash as part of a larger kitchen renovation. The slab panels were cut from large-format 60x120 inch porcelain sheets, which required a template to be made from the wall before any cuts were taken. The induction cooktop and integrated sink positions meant the slab had to accommodate several cutouts that were measured twice and cut at the shop before the installation day.

The under-cabinet LED strip was installed before the tile so the slab could be brought tight to the cabinet underside, hiding the light channel and creating a clean floating appearance when the lights are on.

What We Did

  1. Templated the wall and all cutout locations; cuts made from 60x120 porcelain slab panels
  2. Coordinated LED channel installation with electrician before tile was set
  3. Set slab panels with large-format epoxy mortar for full-coverage bond; silicone joints at corners
  4. Applied penetrating sealer to grout joints; white silicone caulk at countertop-to-tile transition
