Compact modern bathroom with large gray concrete-look wall tiles, vessel sink, and backlit mirror in a Sattler riverside home

Shower Remodel in Riverside Home

Sattler, TX

This compact bathroom in a Sattler riverside home was fully retiled with large-format gray concrete-look porcelain on all walls and a matching smaller-format tile on the shower floor. The original shower had been tiled without a waterproofing membrane, and moisture had worked into the framing behind the back wall over time. We removed all existing tile, treated the affected framing, and rebuilt the shower substrate with cement backer board and a full liquid-applied waterproofing membrane before any new tile was set.

The large-format wall tile in a compact shower required careful layout to avoid narrow cut pieces at the corners. We planned the layout so the smallest cut tile at any corner was at least half a tile width, which keeps the finished look clean and intentional rather than squeezed.

What We Did

  1. Full demo of shower tile; assessed and treated moisture-affected framing; installed cement backer board
  2. Applied liquid waterproofing membrane to full wet zone; installed pre-sloped foam shower floor pan
  3. Planned large-format wall tile layout to avoid narrow corner cuts; set with large-format modified thinset
  4. Set mosaic floor tile with slope toward drain; grouted all surfaces; applied high-moisture sealer
